Sint Petrus Banden kerk

In de 13e eeuw was de Sint Petrusparochie gelegen in Oud-Diemen. Bij het kerkhofje Gedenk te Sterven stond de kerk. Na de Hervorming werd uitgeweken naar Overdiemen. Eerst in een boerenschuur, later in een schuilkerk die was toegewijd aan Sint Petrus Banden (Banden=boeien). Eind 18e eeuw bouwde men een kerk aan de Hartveldseweg 23, genoemd De Hoop 91787). Het kerkhof werd in 1827 aangelegd. De pastorie werd in 1882 gebouwd. Rond 1900 werd De Hoop t klein en zo kwam in 1910 de huidige kerk tot stand. In 1929 is het grote Heilig-Hartbeeld geplaatst.

Rechts naast de kerk staat de mooie pastorie in neorenaissancestijl uit 1882, architect A.C. Bleijs. Rechts van deze pastorie staat de voormalige rooms-katholieke schuurkerk De Hoop, nu cultureel centrum. Het interieur van deze kerk is in de jaren 1960 nogal fors versoberd en gemoderniseerd.

De architectonische ruimtewerking van het interieur is echter intact gebleven.

 

In the 13th century, the parish of Saint Peter was located in Oud-Diemen, where the small cemetery “Gedenk te Sterven” stood alongside the church. After the Reformation, worship moved to Overdiemen—first in a barn, later in a hidden church dedicated to Saint Peter in Chains (Chains = Banden). At the end of the 18th century, a church named De Hoop (“The Hope”) was built on Hartveldseweg 23 (1787). The cemetery was established in 1827, and the rectory followed in 1882. Around 1900, De Hoop became too small, leading to the construction of the current church in 1910. In 1929, the large Sacred Heart statue was placed in front of the church.

To the right of the church stands the beautiful neo-Renaissance rectory from 1882, designed by architect A.C. Bleijs. Next to this rectory is the former Roman Catholic hidden church De Hoop, now a cultural center. The interior of this church was significantly simplified and modernized in the 1960s.

However, the architectural spatial character of the interior has remained intact.
